SEPTEMBER 25, 2010
MWRA Extends Construction Hours for Arlington Center Work - Due to increased exposure to risk in other areas of MWRA's pipeline, the Town is allowing the MWRA to start work earlier and end later during the course of this project (6 a.m. - 4 p.m.). This will allow the MWRA to expedite, as best they can, their work in Arlington and move on to other areas in the system. All businesses within the area will continue to be open and accessible during the construction. To read more about this project, please visit arlingtonma.gov/mwra.
WEEK ENDING SEPTEMBER 10, 2010
Due to a leak in another area of MWRA’s water distribution system, the MWRA was not able to shutdown and dewater of our 56-inch WASM3 line as previously scheduled for the week September 7th. We anticipate WASM3 will be shutdown during next week and the construction crews will fully mobilize by Monday September 20.

There will be travel lane restrictions, parking restrictions and sidewalk occupancy. Duration of Phase 3 Work is estimated at 8 to 10 weeks and is scheduled for daytime hours Monday through Friday.

Closed access pit #1 on Medford Street and closed pit on Mass Ave westbound for the 12-inch new insertion valve on Arlington high service water main. Completed work on demolition of the second interconnection (MWRA to Arlington mains). Contractor encountering utility conflicts with our planned work that are presenting some difficulties and additional work.
WEEK ENDING MAY 7, 2010
Operations still in the process of reactivating the WASM3 line. The Contractor completed building access pit #3 on Mass Ave at the intersection of Medford Street. Completed abandoning one of the old interconnections with Arlington’s water main and commenced work on demolition of a second interconnection. Contractor encountering utility conflicts with our planned work that are presenting some difficulties and additional work.
WEEK ENDING APRIL 30, 2010
The Contractor completed working on abandoning WASM3 valve tie ins and Operations is in the process of reactivating the WASM3 line. Some additional work remains both at the plaza and the island that will be done in Phase 3 Fall 2010. Completed building access pit #4 on Mass Ave Eastbound and commenced work on access pit #3 at the intersection of Medford Street Two insertion valves were installed one on Arlington’s 12-inch low service water main (Mass Ave westbound) and the other on Arlington’s 8-inch high service main (Mass Ave eastbound).
WEEK ENDING APRIL 16, 2010
The Contractor focused on working on abandoning WASM3 valve tie ins – both at the plaza and the island. Completed building access pit #1 on Medford Street for cleaning and lining Section 28 main. Test pit the new emergency connection for Arlington’s 12-inch water main and found some additional utility conflicts. Contractor cleaned up and restored pavement at access pits along Mass Ave and Phase 2 work zone for Town parade.
APRIL 12, 2010
Week ending April 9, 2010 - The Contractor encountered a changed condition at the access pit westbound on Mass Ave at Medford Street, which resulted in enlarging the pit. An ancient wooden duct-bank sits just underneath the 12-inch Arlington water main scheduled for a new valve. There was limited loss of Verizon service when the duct-bank was encountered; Verizon repairs were complete as of Friday morning. The repair work will delay installation of two valves Arlington water mains. MWRA’s Operations Staff completed isolation and dewatering of WASM3 line: the contractor inspected the sub-surface valve conditions in the plaza and the island.
APRIL 2, 2010
Phase 2 work commenced on March 31 in lieu of March 29 due to heavy rains. The Contractor has completed constructing two access pits (one eastbound and one westbound) on Mass Ave at Medford Street. These pits are needed for new valves on 8-inch and 12-inch Arlington water mains to be installed next week. The work requires lane restrictions and parking restrictions directly adjacent to the work areas. Arlington. These pits are plated during non-work hours. MWRA’s Operations Staff commence isolation of WASM3 line next week.
