What You Can and Can’t Flush Down a Toilet

Have you ever wondered what happens when you flush things down your toilet? I am here to inform you what is safe to flush down and what you can’t flush down your toilet. First of all, never flush down anything besides the “4 P’s”: pee, poop, (toilet) paper, and puke. These things are safe to flush down the toilet because they do not clog the pipes or the drains. Some other things that you CAN’T flush down the toilet are household items, baby wipes (flushable or not), wrappers, hair, wallets, money, diapers, and any other products. These items do clog the drains, pipes, and sewer systems.

How would you feel if you were a toilet and your pipes were clogged? I don’t’ think it would feel very good! Those items block the pipes/drains and block the 4 P’s from going through, like they’re supposed to which causes a lot of problems. This will cause your toilet to overflow and flood your house, if your pipes are backed up! You will probably need to call a plumber to fix this problem. That could cost you a lot of money that you could have spent on a vacation. This could also cause damage to the inside of your house. I mean who wants toilet water all over their bathroom floor and flowing into the other rooms – gross! That is why it is so important to pay attention to what you are flushing down the toilet.

You may be wondering why you cannot flush flushable baby wipes down the toilet. Well, these wipes may advertise that they are flushable, but truly, they really are not. When wipes are flushed down the toilet, they stay in one piece, and do not break apart, unlike toilet paper, which breaks down into many pieces. This causes the baby wipe to stick to the pipes and sewer system, and block the things that need to go to Boston Harbor, or that need to go to the main drains of your town. Also, other things stick to this wipe, leaving everything in the drains backed up, and it takes a while to remove the wipes and everything sticking to it. Don’t you feel bad for the poor people that have to work to remove all of these sticky, unappealing “flushable” wipes from the pipes? Help them out: only flush the 4 P’s down your toilet.

So now you know what’s safe to flush down you toilet. Try to let people know that you can only flush pee, poop, puke, and paper down your toilet. It will help our environment, and your home. This will also help you save your money, instead of paying a plumber to unclog your drains and pipes. It will also help your homes from overflowing, or flooding with toilet water. Also, it will make those who have to clean the pipes job a whole lot easier. I hope this helps you understand the importance of knowing what you can and can’t flush down the toilet, and why.
