Co-Operative Education

Massachusetts Water Resources Authority

The MWRA Co-Operative Education program provides supervised workplace employment opportunities and learning experiences for qualified Massachusetts high school students. The goal of the program is to orient and familiarize the student with actual work situations and provide the student with an opportunity to observe, experience, and analyze work which is directly related to academic training. Additionally, the program will provide the student exposure to personnel, equipment, and procedures different from those experiences in the school setting and help the student bridge a gap between school and employment.

Who's Eligible?

  • Eligible high school students should have successfully completed or can demonstrate an adequate amount of the trade's curriculum, have demonstrated interpersonal skills, communication skills, work ethic, motivation and initiative and respectfulness.
  • Please note, students must report their absences to their employer and the school
  • The MWRA High School Co-op is a paid program that is subject to many of the labor laws that apply to employees such as health and saftey, and workplace discrimination.
  • We follow the DESE guidelines and allow students to go to work every other week instead of going to school.
  • During a co-op week, students need a minimum of 30 hours in a supervised position that matches their vocational or academic program.
