Nut Island is a former island located within Boston Harbor and part of the Boston Harbor Islands National and State Park. The island is connected to the mainland and can be reached through a causeway at the end of Houghs Neck in Quincy, MA. The island features recreational trails, benches, and a fishing pier for the public to utilize. Centuries ago colonists used the island to graze cattle; now it serves as a critical site housing a headworks facility, which works in conjunction with the Deer Island Wastewater Treatment Plant that is operated and managed by the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA).
The “Reel Fun Fishing Day at Nut Island” is presented by the National Park Service (NPS), DMF, MassWildlife, the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), the MWRA, and Boston Harbor Now, and with generous support from the National Park Foundation and L.L.
