News reports of the chemical train derailment and fire in Ohio have raised concerns for residents of nearby areas in Ohio of possible contamination of their local water supplies. While MWRA would not expect to see any impact from this incident on the water quality in Quabbin and Wachusett Reservoirs, we collected and analyzed additional samples to confirm the safety of our water. None of the samples collected had any detectable amounts of vinyl chloride.
The Quabbin and Wachusett Reservoirs hold a total of over 470 billion gallons of water, collect water from 400 square miles of well protected watershed, and produce some of the highest quality and best tasting water in the United States.
