MWRA’s Deer Island Treatment Plant has received the Platinum Peak Performance Award for 2020 from the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA).
The award recognizes facilities for outstanding compliance of their National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit limits.
This recognition program consists of three categories – Platinum, Gold and Silver. Platinum is awarded to facilities that have had no NPDES permit violations for five years in a row.
This is the 14th year that Deer Island has recieved this award, a significant achievement as the second largest plant in the country.
In addtion to Deer Island's award, the Clinton Wastewater Treatment Plant won the Silver Peak Performance Award after a nearly perfect year in 2020 with a single NPDES violation.
Congratulations to everyone at Deer Island, Clinton and beyond who keep the MWRA wastewater system operating in peak condition to protect the public health and welfare of the service area through reliable wastewater treatment services.
