The Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA) is planning to upgrade water transmission pipes in Belmont. As part of the design effort, MWRA has hired CDM Smith, Inc. and other firms to perform sub-surface exploration activities on/near existing pipelines. The soil boring activities involve blocking off a small area of the road with a support truck and a boring rig, drilling down to a depth of 15 to 25 feet and removing the soil samples. At each location, the work is estimated to take 4-5 hours. MWRA has 25 sites planned for Belmont.

The locations are shown in Table 1 below and in the overview plan (see map, PDF). Notification letters will be sent to abutters. Work will begin the week of September 5, 2017 and will occur between 7AM and 4PM. Construction Zone Safety Plans, including local police details, will be provided for traffic control, and ensuring worker and general public safety in each area.
