The Massachusetts Water Resources Authority will soon begin to repairs on a section of the public access walkway that has eroded above the seawall.
Some areas have ruts as deep as 2 to 3 feet due to damage from Nor'easters. Runoff from this erosion has impacted some of the public access pathways with sand and dirt collecting on the pathways. Large rocks will be placed in the eroded area similar to some other areas around Deer Island. This work will also ensure protection of the wastewater treatment facilities and water tank.
The area is roughly 600 feet in length and ranges from 40 to 50 feet in width. Public access will remain open during this work, with occasional short-term (minutes) interruptions to access on the pathway. Construction activities will take place from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
