MWRA Director of Metropolitan Water Operations and Maintenance
received the Award of Merit from the New England Water Works Association.
Mark H. Johnson, P.E., MWRA's Director of Metropolitan Water Operations and Maintenance received the Award of Merit from the New England Water Works Association (NEWWA), the region’s largest and oldest not-for-profit organization of water works professionals.
The award is bestowed yearly to a member of the association who has demonstrated, in the opinion of the Award of Merit Committee, the highest level of outstanding service to NEWWA, a water utility, the water works practice in general, or any combination of the aforementioned.
In his position at the MWRA, Mark is responsible for managing the operation and maintenance of the metropolitan water system, which includes 12 pump stations, 12 storage tanks, and 285 miles of transmission main. In the past he has worked with the MWRA on the Boston Harbor Project, during which he managed the design and construction of various new facilities on Deer Island between 1989 and 1994. Mark holds a grade 4 drinking water distribution operator’s license and is a registered professional engineer in Massachusetts and Maine. He graduated from The University of New Hampshire with a B.S. in civil engineering and earned his masters in civil engineering from Northeastern University.
The New England Water Works Association is a nonprofit, independent, member-driven organization dedicated to serving the region’s water works professionals and the public interest. It is the oldest and most active regional water works association in the United States. For more than a century, NEWWA has worked to improve and sustain public water supplies, protect public health and safety, and advance the water supply profession.
