MWRA Work Will Require Overnight Water Shutdown
in Washington Square Area of Chelsea

On Wednesday night, October 8, 2014, the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority will be performing maintenance work to replace water valves and piping at Washington Avenue and Nichols Street in Chelsea.

In order to perform the work, water service in the area of Washington Avenue from Sagamore Avenue to Murray Street will be shut down from 10:00 pm on October 8, 2014 to 5:00 am October 9, 2014. As a result of this work, there could be a loss of water pressure in the adjacent area and possible discolored water once the water service has been restored.

If discolored water does occur, it will result from a small amount of iron in the pipes. While it is safe for drinking, cooking and other uses, please note that iron will stain light colored items in the laundry, especially when bleach is used. Residents should check water clarity before washing any white or lighter colored laundry during this period of work. If discolored water does occur, please run the cold water until the water runs clear.

Please call MWRA at 617-305-5950 if you have any questions or concerns.
