The Town of Wellesley and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) have issued a boil water order for residents and businesses in Wellesley.

The boil water order has been issued because water samples taken in the town's local water distribution system tested positive for Total Coliform and E. coli bacteria. The problem is isolated within the town of Wellesley and does not affect the rest of the MWRA service area.

Important Information for Residents of Wellesley:

• DO NOT DRINK THE WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST. Bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water.

• Until the issue is resolved, WATER IN THE TOWN OF WELLESLEY WILL NOT BE SUITABLE FOR DRINKING UNLESS IT IS BOILED, but can be used for bathing, flushing and fire protection.
