MWRA Water Main Work May Cause Dicolored Water in Melrose

In connection with its Spot Pond Water Storage Tank construction project, the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority will be shutting down and exercising valves on water mains that supply the City of Melrose on Monday evening August 18, 2014. Work will begin at 9PM and will be completed by 5AM.  Water service to homes will not be interrupted; however, there is a high probability that the fluctuations in water flow within this service zone will cause some discolored water in the area.

Discolored water occurs from a small amount of iron in the pipes. While it is safe for drinking, cooking and other uses, please note that iron will stain light colored items in your laundry, especially when bleach is used.  Residents should check water clarity before washing any white or lighter colored laundry during this period of work. If you do find discolored water, please run your cold water only until the water runs clear.

Please call MWRA at 617-305-5950 if you have any questions or concerns.
