MWRA contractor Geologic Earth Exploration Boring is set to begin conducting soil borings in Woburn, Reading, Stoneham and Wakefield as part of the preliminary design process for the Northern Immediate High Service Area Redundant Pipeline, a project to provide much-needed water system redundancy to an area that is currently served by a single water supply main.
Work will begin in Reading Woburn on Friday, October 19 Thursday, October 18 and progress southward along the seven-mile proposed pipeline route (see map). Hours of operation will be from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The entire soil boring project will take a several few weeks, depending on conditions.
Soil boring entails blocking off a small area of a roadway with a truck and a boring rig, which drills to a depth of approximately 15 feet to remove soil samples for study. Work at each location will take up to six hours.
