The Boston Society of Civil Engineers (BSCES) presented William P. Levy, Geotechnical Engineering Program Manager for MWRA, with a 2012 Ernest Herzog Technical Paper Award for his paper, "North Dorchester Bay CSO Storage Tunnel, Boston MA: Risks, Response and Rewards." The Ernest A. Herzog Award promotes awareness of innovative improvements to infrastructure, and recognizes projects that have dramatically improved the service provided to the public through the improvement. The subject of Mr. Levy's paper, MWRA's CSO storage tunnel in South Boston, has eliminated combined sewer overflows and stormwater discharges to the beaches in South Boston after all but the heaviest of storms. Established in 1848, BSCES is the oldest engineering society in the United States and currently supports over 3,400 members throughout Massachusetts. BSCES formally became a Section of ASCE in 1974 after the merger with ASCE's Massachusetts Section. Ten years later, BSCES was instrumental in the formation of The Engineering Center, already a focal point for our professions throughout New England. |
