MWRA will hold a public meeting to discuss the Weston Reservoir Dam Modification Project. This project is part of MWRA's overall plan to
meet new dam safety requirements.

About the Project

MWRA has hired T Ford Company of Georgetown, MA to upgrade the Weston Reservoir Dam to meet the standards required by the Massachusetts Office of Dam Safety. T Ford plans to mobilize on the eastern edge of the reservoir in September, accessing the area through the paved MWRA roadway off Newton Street, in Weston, MA.  

Regular work hours will be Monday through Friday from 7:00AM-4:00PM.  The dam work is expected to take four months. The lands surrounding Weston Reservoir are open to the public and MWRA intends to maintain public access through most phases of this important project.

However, the first task is to remove approximately 270 large white pines along with their stumps along the steep slope of the dam. This process will take two weeks. For safety reasons, the public access paths over the 1000 linear feet of dam will be closed during tree removal. However, the remainder of the reservoir lands and trails will remain open to the public. It should be noted that trees on the slope of dams eventually compromise the integrity of the dam and therefore must be removed. Upon completion of tree removal the slope of the dam will be re-graded and seeded.

Then, a new 1000 foot long, 36-inch high crest and parapet wall will be constructed along the top of the dam providing increased protection from heavy flooding events,  in compliance with the ODS regulations. MWRA recognizes the beauty and historical significance of the Weston Reservoir landscape and has planned this work with these values in mind.
