On Wednesday, May 11, 2011, MWRA received EPA New England's Environmental Merit Award in recognition of clean energy technologies and practices, demonstrating a strong commitment to energy efficiency, renewables and to the environment.
The awards, given annually for outstanding efforts in preserving New England's environment, were presented at a ceremony at Boston's historic Faneuil Hall.
"In these challenging economic times, many environmental priorities may seem to take a back seat," said Curt Spalding, EPA New England Regional Administrator. "The healthier the environment is, the more investment is possible and vice versa. As stewards for the New England environment, our 2011 award winners understand this link," he said.
In addition to its efforts to ensure safe drinking water and to upgrade combined sewer overflows in order to protect beaches, shellfish beds and sensitive waters, the MWRA has embraced and implemented clean energy technologies and practices, demonstrating a strong commitment
