UPDATE ON CLEANUP OF FUEL SPILL AT CHARLES RIVER |
|
This is an update on the progress of cleaning up the February 10, 2010 fuel spill at MWRA's Cottage Farm CSO Facility, located on Memorial Drive, Cambridge. Last night Clean Harbors removed all the oil adjacent to the shore and the oil contaminated ice along the shore. The boom deployed at the BU bridge was checked throughout the night and the boom/socks are clean. Clean Harbors has remobilized this morning and the plan for today is to break up and remove skim coat of ice on shore and wash down a few feet of the shore and remove residual oil. Excavation of the contaminated dirt at the front of the facility will begin this morning. A licensed site professional is on site to test soil and provide direction to Clean Harbors. The roof drain line will also be flushed today. There were no service interruptions associated with this incident. ### |
