MWRA BEGINS FILLING BLUE HILLS TANKS
Work May Cause Discolored Water In Quincy

MORE INFORMATION
Blue Hills Rendering

On Sunday night, August 2, 2009, the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority will begin the process of activating the new Blue Hills Covered Storage Tanks, which will provide better water pressure and emergency storage to the City of Quincy. This work will continue through the month of August.

MWRA will mitigate any discolored water impacts as much as possible including performing major flushing operations at night between the hours of 11:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. However, the chance for discolored water during the daytime will still exist. We recommend that residents check the color of their tap water prior to washing any white or light colored clothing.

If discolored water does occur, it will result from a small amount of iron in the pipes. While safe for drinking, cooking and other uses, please note that iron will stain light colored items in your laundry, especially when bleach is used. Therefore, residents should check water clarity before washing any white or lighter colored laundry during this period of work.

Please contact the MWRA’s 24-hour water operations center at (617) 305-5950 if you notice any problems.
