UPDATE ON SEWER PROJECT IN WEST ROXBURY |
|||||
If all goes according to plan, construction of the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority’s Upper Neponset Valley Relief Sewer project will have a new schedule soon. A new permit from the Department of Conservation and Recreation will allow work along the VFW parkway during the daytime. MWRA has also asked DCR for permission to work through the winter months from Spring Street/Bridge Street to Corey Street in order to expedite construction and complete major excavations by November 2007. Although some work will continue during overnight hours, the next planned work area that involves blasting will be done on the day shift. Work on this project is approximately 40% complete and is scheduled to be finished by Winter 2007/2008. Message boards were set up last week to inform people of alternate traffic routes resulting from this work. These modifications are scheduled to take place by August 28th. From Spring Street/Bridge Street to Charles Park Road four lanes of traffic (two northbound and two southbound) will be open at all times with three lanes of traffic shifted to the outbound (southbound) side of VFW Parkway. Although the set-up will be in place around the clock, the work hours will be from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Minor modifications will be made at the intersections of Spring Street/Bridge Street and Charles Park Road with VFW Parkway, and the pedestrian signal at the DCR ice arena will be operational except when construction is at the crosswalk. By occupying the roadway during the day work should be completed in this section before the end of September. A public meeting will be held right after Labor Day to update project neighbors on construction progress and traffic impacts. MWRA urges residents along the route to attend this important public hearing.
