FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: October 6 , 2005
MWRA EMPLOYEES RAISE OVER $16,000 FOR VICTIMS OF HURRICANE KATRINA Employees of the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority have so far raised a total of $16,724 for the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund through a coordinated labor and management fundraising effort. The MWRA, which has 1,265 employees, launched its fundraising campaign in the first week of September and has used a variety of means to raise funds, including bake sales, raffles and a targeted payroll deduction program. The agency set a fundraising goal of $20,000 by December 31, 2005. Executive director Frederick A. Laskey is confident that the goal will be met. “The women and men of the MWRA have a long tradition of generous support for charities and those in need, and the need for charitable giving has never been greater.” The Red Cross was chosen by employees because it has been designated by former Presidents Clinton and Bush as the official relief organization. # # #
