April 7, 2004 MWRA Set to Replace 1927 Water Pipe in Waltham The MWRA is planning to replace a 30-inch diameter water pipe along Newton Street and over the MBTA railroad tracks in Waltham. The contractor will need immediate access to the area for test pits. Traffic will be detoured during active construction, from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.. Newton Street will be limited to one lane, but will reopen by 4:00 p.m. daily. Access pits will be covered with steel plates. The pipe is being specially manufactured. Replacement construction work, which will take place on Mondays through Fridays, will begin on May 17. Work is expected to take 5-6 months to complete.
