MWRA MAINTENANCE WORK WILL RAISE WATER LEVEL IN OPEN CHANNEL AND SUDBURY RESERVOIR
The Massachusetts Water Resources Authority will be testing some components of its water system in September as part of the Integrated Water Supply Improvement Program. This will temporarily change water levels in the Open Channel and the Sudbury Reservoir. During the first part of September, the level of the Sudbury Reservoir will be lowered in preparation for a flow test. In some parts of the reservoir, the level will be low enough so that the bottom will become visible. During the second half of the month, residents along the Open Channel will notice significantly increased flow in the channel as the MWRA tests the Wachusett Aqueduct, which recently underwent rehabilitation. The Aqueduct empties into the open channel. These flows will last for two to three weeks and will be cancelled in the event of any heavy precipitation.
